There are a million things people can say to refute the huge event that is Micheal Jacksons death. People can easily use the whole alleged child molestation thing and him just being a bizzare dude. Its also easy to question why people are so bent out of shape out of celebrity dying when there are obviously bigger issues in the world that arent getting the same attention. You can make these arguments but the fact still stands Micheal Jackson was an Icon. He single handedly changed the landscape of modern music and entertainment in a way few have before him.
Sure you can be bothered by how obsessed our culture is with celebrity but like it or not, his death is a turning point. For people in the similar age bracket as I, MJ was responsible for a good portion of the pop culture of our childhood . His death ends the error that is the micheal jackson circus from making amazing music and video’s, dangiling babies out of a window, crazy court cases, radical plastic surgery and unrealized comeback . We will never see a celebrity like him again in our lifetime- Because of our accessbility to music and the advent of the internet, the world wont need one person to deliver so much entertainment. The dude sold 100 million records with thriller. No one will ever accomplish that again.
As far as him being a kid toucher, its something Ive never really believed. Thats a whole other convo for another time. Its just funny how so many people are now convinced he is a kid toucher so theyre the oppistion to all the people singing his priases. I guess that just how people are.
Thriller was the first record I ever bought. Thriller was also the first video I was petrified of. My cousin Jesse ( who is a boy and straping young lad now) wanted to marry micheal jackson when he was 6, cause like the world around him he was so anamared by MJ ( we had to explain why they couldnt get married).I was so pissed when my cousins cousin Kim went to the Victory tour and I couldnt. Todd video of the elementary school version of himself doing smooth criminal was priceless. Countless hours of late night dance parties to every mj song. Driving around with Erin listening to “can you feel it” and jackson 5 songs. Me and Ali would drive around in my car and listen to one of his greatest hits cds cause its all I had. I still think of that anytime i think of or hear “wanna be startin somethin”
Funny thing is Im not even that big of a fan, but his influence was in so many facets of my life. Im sure a lot of people can say the same.
Its still soo fucking weird that he’s dead..
for real.
